Racing Shells

Construction

Swift Racing’s use of sandwich construction in the manufacturing of their racing shells helps to create a strong, durable, and lightweight product. This technique involves using a core material, such as Nomex honeycomb or foam, that is sandwiched between two layers of material, typically carbon fiber or Kevlar.

Sandwich construction has several benefits for rowing shells. Firstly, it provides high strength and stiffness while keeping the weight low, making the boat easier to move through the water. Additionally, the sandwich construction provides excellent resistance to torsion and bending forces, which is crucial for maintaining stability and speed during rowing.

We offers several different constructions for their racing shells, with Carbon Pro being the lightest and most high-performance option, followed by Elite Plus and Club A. This allows rowers to choose a boat that suits their specific needs and budget, while still benefiting from the superior quality and construction of Swift Racing’s boats.

Riggers

Swift Racing’s racing shells come standard with aluminum stern wing or bow wing sweep or scull riggers, which are hard anodized for maximum durability. These riggers are designed to be adjustable, allowing rowers to change the fore or aft placement of the rigger and the spread/span of the pin to optimize performance and comfort.

Swift Racing also offers a Quick Release System for their aluminum riggers, which simplifies rigging and de-rigging or switching from sweep to scull. This system allows for pairs/doubles or fours/quads to be changed quickly, reducing the number of boats needed at a race and simplifying equipment sharing for clubs.

For those looking for even lighter riggers, Swift Racing offers carbon reverse wing riggers for both sweep and scull configurations. Carbon riggers are significantly lighter than aluminum riggers, making the boat feel more responsive on the pickup at the catch. However, it’s important to note that carbon riggers are not compatible with the Quick Release System.

Fittings & Features

Foot Stretchers: The foot stretchers and shoes are important components of a rowing shell that directly affect a rower’s performance and comfort. Our carbon foot stretchers are designed to be both lightweight and rigid, ensuring efficient transfer of power from the rower’s legs to the oar. They are also adjustable for height, fore and aft position, and angle, allowing for a customized fit for each rower.

Shoes: Swift Racing shoes are included as standard equipment with all boats, ensuring that rowers have high-quality footwear that is designed to work seamlessly with the foot stretchers. For Carbon Pro and Elite Plus rowing shells, Swift Racing offers the option of Bont Rowing shoes or Active Tools adjustable shoes at no additional cost. These shoes are designed to provide maximum comfort and support for the rower’s feet, while also allowing for precise adjustments to optimize the rowing stroke.

By providing high-quality foot stretchers and shoes as standard equipment, and offering customizable options for higher-end models, Swift Racing ensures that their rowing shells are optimized for maximum performance and comfort for rowers of all levels.

Seats: Swift Racing’s adjustable height carbon seat is an important component of their racing shells, designed to provide both comfort and optimal rowing performance. The seat is made from lightweight and durable carbon fiber, ensuring that it does not add unnecessary weight to the boat. The adjustable height feature allows rowers to set the seat to the perfect height for their individual needs, which is important for proper technique and avoiding injury.

In addition to the adjustable height feature, Swift Racing offers a gender-specific carbon seat top for their racing shells. The seat top is designed with holes spaced at 12cm for men or 14cm for women, allowing for a more personalized and comfortable fit, which is especially important during long rowing sessions or races.

Fins & Rudders: The fins and rudders of a rowing shell are important components that affect the boat’s stability and maneuverability in the water. All Swift Racing rowing shells come with an anodized aluminum fin that is secured in a fix box. The anodized aluminum construction makes the fin durable and resistant to corrosion and the fin box means that rowers can quickly and easily swap out the fin if needed.

Colors

Standard Boat Color: The standard color for Swift Racing shells is a white hull and canvas decks with black tips for the bow and stern. The hull and canvas decks are finished with 3 coats of UV resistant polyurethane paint and 2 additional coats for the trim to help protect the most vulnerable areas of your rowing shell.

Custom Boat Colors: Boats can be purchased with custom colors for the hull and canvas decks or bow and stern tips. In addition to personalizing your racing shell, changing the bow and stern tip color can be a great way to differentiate weight classes or shells intended for a specific program in your club.

Clear Coat Finish: When ordering a Carbon Pro shell, you have the option of having the hull and canvas decks finished in a clear UV resistant polyurethane paint with black trim, showing off the end to end pre-preg carbon and giving your boat a unique look.
